About English speaking club: briefly
The English speaking club has been operating at “Mkhitar Sebasatsi” college for about a year now. The club is still open only for college students, but we plan to expand the scope of our club and make it available for high school students as well. The meetings take place every Tuesday from 15:00 to 16:00 pm in the English classroom of the college.
Why?
The club aims to give students the opportunity to communicate in English and improve their spoken English. Unfortunately, the opportunities to communicate in English in our daily life are quite few, often students’ conversations in English begin in the classroom and end there. However, in order to learn a foreign language, it is very important to communicate in that language as much as possible, and English speaking club is a great opportunity to do that. The club also helps to improve English vocabulary, because students learn the vocabulary related to the topic of the meeting in advance.
The purpose of the club is also to study and discuss such topics that are not included in general textbooks. Various educational platforms available on the Internet help us in this matter. Here, for example, you can get acquainted with the artivles written by students about UN’s sustainable development goals:
Each meeting of the club has its own topic: first of all students learn the vocabulary related to the given topic, then they expand their knowledge by watching videos or reading articles, and, as a conclusion, we summarize what we have learnt and share it with each other through discussions. The topics chosen this year are mainly related to everyday life, because the main goal of this semester for all club participants is to be able to talk about themselves, their surroundings and people around them in English.
